Empowering Women for Sustainable Feminist Movement

1. Applicant: Hepa Plus

Project title: Women with HIV – We exist!

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 6 months

Project amount 10 000 Gel

Although, it’s been almost ten years since HIV Civil Society is actively involved in planning Georgia’s HIV response and advocating for including community-centred interventions in the national strategy, due to the existing stigma, HIV women’s voice is hardly heard - especially of those who do not belong to the groups of sex workers, drug users and former prisoners. The project aims to empower HIV positive women by creating a formal network which will assess their basic needs and strengthen their advocacy skills.

 

2. Applicant: Lesbian* Resistance

Project title: Lesbian Resistance beyond Formal Activism

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 4 months

Project amount 10 000 Gel

The objective of the group is to mobilise non-heterosexual women, raise awareness, support promoting queer-feminist activism and empower queer women. The project aims to create a space where meetings, workshops and talks will be regularly hosted around the themes of sexuality, gender and queer feminism. The group will encourage its members to pursue self-organised activities, which the group will support by providing space and human resources.

Project title: Feminist narrative

Region: Imereti, Kutaisi

Duration: 6 months

Project amount 10 000 Gel

The project aims to provide a safe space for women, encourage self-organised activities around feminist values and raise feminist consciousness among women in Kutaisi. The goal of the project is to support self-organised feminist group’s performances that are based on first-person narratives, knowledges and experiences in order to raise consciousness and encourage solidarity, create provocative and brave stepts to counter silences that hinder women’s emancipation in various areas of their lives.

4.Applicant: Woman and Reality

Project title: Disabled women’s rights

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 5 months

Project amount: 10 000 Gel

The project aims to improve economic, cultural and political conditions for disabled women by empowering disabled women’s networks. The mission of the project includes: 1. Supporting institutional development of the disabled women’s network. 2. Providing informal education in the fields of gender equality and women’s rights among disabled women in Tbilisi and the target regions (Imereti, Samegrelo, Adjara).

5. Applicant: Puspussy

Project title: Your safe (working) space

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 6 months

Project amount 10 000 Gel

The group is comprised of feminist activists and aims to support empowering and developing feminist movements in Georgia. The project’s objectives include encouraging solidarity and empathy among women; supporting girls’/women’s civic movements; creating a space for networking and co-working; supporting cross collaboration between groups of women and women’s organisations; mobilising resources to empower women by creating a core empowerment platform.

 

6. Applicant: Aceso

Project title: Drug User and Sex Worker Women Initiating the New Goals of Safety

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 6 months

Project amount 10 000 Gel

The goal of the project is to contribute to the improving access of women who use drugs and sex worker women in Georgia to IPV related medical and social referral that is to be achieved through the continuation with already started WINGS initiatives in Georgia. The project will address the needs of the most disadvantaged groups in receiving medical, social and legal support and will promote overarching principles of rights to health, social inclusion and equity through empowering women who use drug community-based NGO in applying WINGS (evidence-based, single-session Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment and Service (SBIRT) Tool. In the long term, it is aimed to build the well-developed system of identification of IPV cases among drug user and sex worker women and refer them to relevant agencies/institutions in State and Non-State sectors.

 

7. Applicant: Doctors for Society

Project title: Sex education and women’s rights promotion through a new youtube channel and additional platforms

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 5 months

Project amount 10 000 Gel

The project aims to create a youtube channel to propagate information about sex education and women’s rights. The channel will host 10 newly created videos. The videos will cover the following topics: women’s sexual health; Sexually Transmitted Diseases and contraception (general overview); sexually transmitted diseases in detail (Hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, Gonorrhoea); mastopathy and breast cancer screenings; vaginal delivery and C-section; depression in pregnancy and postnatal depression; screening tests in pregnancy; abortion and related medical and legal issues; menopause and the related social problems and the viruses that lead to cancer (Human papillomavirus). A dedicated Facebook page will be created to share and disseminate these videos

 

8. Applicant: Initiative group (Ia Bakhtadze)

Project title: Documented Memories

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 4 months

Project amount 10 000 Gel

The project aims to raise awareness on ecology and feminism among women in Georgia’s rural regions. We plan to conduct a workshop in three parts. The first part will share information about ecology and feminism. The second part will hold a workshop around making paper from recycled materials. The final part will consist of encouraging the participants to document their memories and emotions that are usually supressed by patriarchal systems. This method of ‘liberation’ has a positive therapeutic effect and encourages practices of self-care.

9. Applicant: Leila Tughushi

Project title: Course in Psychology

Region: Tbilisi

Duration: 3 months

Project amount 4000 Gel

Leila would like to undertake a certified course in Psychology delivered by NGO Psychocorrection and Psychodiagnostic House Dendroni. “Studying is very hard for women of my age. Although I am highly motivated I often encounter comments such as ‘it’s not your time to study’. Even the course leaders express doubts that I will be able to handle the coursework. I am very concerned about this type of stereotyping and I would like to set a good example that even 50+ can study and begin their lives anew”.

 

10. Applicant: Tetritskaro Youth Center

Project title: Share your experience

Region: Kvemo Kartli, Tetritskaro

Duration: 7 months

Project amount 10 000 Gel

The project aims to create a working group comprising women who are already actively involved in women’s and feminist movements. The working group will engage with women who would like to make positive change in their lives. The working group will share information about women’s rights and opportunities; encourage them to assess and improve their physical and mental health; share their own experience and create a coalition of leaders from diverse social, age and ethnic groups that will enable a better protection of their interests in personal and public lives.
